Dmitry Tokar, DDS, PhD, FADSA
Dr. Dmitriy Tokar – one of the oral and maxillofacial surgeons at Sheepshead Bay Oral Surgery, PLLC – had an interesting and somewhat unusual career prior to becoming a practicing surgeon in the U.S.
Born and raised in the former USSR, upon graduating from high school with honors in 1983, he studied dentistry at Chita State Medical Institute, and graduated with honors as a dentist in 1988. At that time Dr. Tokar had big interest in research and completed post-graduate training, defenting his thesis in 1991 and earning PhD. All this time Dr. Tokar participated in different research projects mostly in the fields related to oral surgery.
After coming to the US in 1994, Dr. Tokar went back to school, and obtained his D.D.S. degree in 1998 from New York University College of Dentistry.
During his years at NYU , Dr. Tokar developed increasing interest in the clinical oral and maxillofacial surgery. He decided to continue his education toward becoming an oral surgeon, and completed Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training from 1998 to 2004 at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Since 2004 Dr. Tokar in the private practice as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, also working as a part-time attending at his “alma mater” – Montefiore Medical Center.
Boris Zats, DDS, FADSA
Dr. Boris Zats obtained both his undergraduate and Doctor of Dental Surgery Degrees from New York University. While obtaining his degree from NYU College of Arts and Science . Dr.Zats was tutoring all levels of calculus and volunteering in Coney Island Hospital. During his doctoral education Dr.Zats continued to dedicate his time to teaching in a dental assistant traing program.
Dr. Zats completed oral and maxillofacial training program at albert einstein college of medicine / montefiore medical center. he had extensive experience with routine oral surgery as weel as trauma, orthognathic/jaw surgery, pathology and reconstruction in Beth Israel, Bronx Lebanon, Jacobi, North Central Bronx and Montefiore Hospitals.
during his education he obtained multiple honors, including Suma Cum Laude, dean's list of honors, Founders Day Award, Oral & Maxillofacial Honors, OKU and Outstanding Clinician awards.
Dr.Zats presented his work multiple times at New York Institute of Clinical Oral Pathology and in different hospitals. He also completed multiple continuing education courses in trauma, orthognathic and reconstrucive surgeries and pathology.
Currently Dr.Zats continues his teaching career in Lutheran Medical Center where he also provides treatment for facial trauma patients.
Dr.Zats is a Diplomate of National Board of Dental Anesthesiology, Member of American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association and Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.
